Severe Weather Awareness Week is held annually every third full week of March. https://weathersafety.ohio.gov/weather-safety/awareness-campaigns/severe-we…
The Statewide Tornado Drill will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 9:50 a.m. Ohioans are encouraged to participate in the drill and practice their emergency sheltering plans. Ohio counties may use this time to sound and test their outdoor warning sirens and mass notification systems. Schools, households, and businesses are also encouraged to practice their tornado drills and emergency plans.
Tornado Watch - Be Prepared: When conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Be ready to move to a place of safety if the watch is upgraded to a warning or if threatening weather approaches.
Tornado Warning - Take Action: When a tornado is imminent or has been sighted. Warnings indicate impending danger to life and property. Seek safe shelter immediately.<https://www.ready.gov/sites/default/files/2020-03/tornado-information-sheet…>
In addition to Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 16-22 is also Flood Safety Awareness Week. Ohio can see flooding from a variety of events such as heavy rain or snow melt. Flood waters can be extremely dangerous. Just six inches of moving water can knock an adult down. One foot of moving water can sweep away small vehicles; two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickup trucks.
