From Ottawa County's HR Director
Has your county had this situation? *Not specifically since I was hired (2+yrs) * Do you have transitional work available outside of the injured workers’ department / budgetary fund? *Absolutely and I would strongly encourage department heads to consider doing this. Its ALWAYS best for the employer and the injured worker to provide some kind of meaningful employment, especially if its within the same workplace, but a different department. Hopefully being the same County structure would ensure appropriate oversight of the injured worker during the light duty assignment. * If so, where would the injured worker’s wages come from, his original department or the department in which he works the transitional position? *My practice throughout my career is to have the department paying for the injury would pay any compensation, whether its non-working wage continuation or that of a light duty assignment. * Rhonda Slauterbeck County Administrator/Clerk Ottawa County Commissioners 315 Madison Street Port Clinton, OH 43452 419-734-6720 On Thu, Sep 28, 2017 at 4:00 PM, Elizabeth Miller <emiller@ccao.org> wrote:
Ashland County asked me to pose this hypothetical question on the CORSA Broadcast. They would appreciate you input.
The Engineer has an employee off work recovering from a workplace injury. The Engineer is paying wage continuation. The injured worker is cleared for transitional work with some restrictions, but the Engineer doesn’t have a position that meets the restrictions. Another county department, in the general fund, does have a position.
