Hi Michelle, See answers below from our Director of Regional Planning, Steve Poggiali. Please feel free to call him directly at (419) 627-6671 if you need clarification, or you have questions on anything. Enjoy the sunshine! Nancy * Would you please explain briefly how economic development is handled in your County? Economic development is done through Regional Planning and the Erie County Economic Development Corporation (ECEDC) does the economic development work for the unincorporated areas of the county. Erie County also has a Port Authority and it should also be noted, the City of Sandusky is the County Seat and they have their own Economic Development Department. * Do you have a county employee/internal department whose focus is economic development? Two employees in Regional Planning would be responsible for the economic development and ECEDC has two full-time and a part-time employee. The City of Sandusky has two employees doing economic development. The Port Authority has a part-time Executive Director on contract. * How is the employee funded? Regional Planning is funded through the Erie County General Fund as well as some fees generated by loans and monitoring of tax incentive programs. ECEDC is funded by public/private funds. The Port Authority received some "seed money" from the county when it was put into place; however, it has not received any additional funding from the county. The City of Sandusky is funded by their General Fund and fees generated through economic development work. * Do you have a Community Improvement Corporation (CIC)? Yes * If yes, how is the CIC used? The CIC is used by the Erie County Commissioners to approve and issue bonds. Funding for ECEDC is also facilitated through the CIC. * Does the CIC have employees? No * How is the CIC funded? The CIC is funded by fees charged for the issuance of bonds. * Does the county contribute any funds to the CIC? No operational funds provided. * How much input (what percentage of votes) does the county have on the CIC board? The county representation on the CIC is 67 percent. Nancy A.
