Attached you will find the Severe Weather and Other Emergency Policy for Delaware County. Generally, the other elected officials look to the Commissioners to determine if they should close. This policy, updated in 2016, has seemed to work and we haven’t had a great deal of dissention during such events. We also have issues with other offices closing due to weather while the Commissioners Offices remain open. The elected officials sometimes close even when not a level 3 (like on Jan 12) and pay their employees but Commissioners can't control that. Would be nice if everyone followed the same policy as it causes issues when some employee are expected to use their vacation or comp time and other offices get paid. Muskingum County's policy currently indicates that for Level 1 and 2 Emergencies, offices will remain open and employees are expected to report to work. If an employee doesn't report to work, they will use vacation, personal, or compensatory time or take the day/time as unpaid. Level 3 Emergencies the offices are closed and employees will be paid. On January 12th, some of our county offices closed early due to the anticipated weather conditions but we were not under any Level Emergencies at the time of closure. Commissioners made the decision to pay employees for the time that they would have been scheduled to work had the office not closed. I would appreciate feedback and/or copies of policies to review. Thanks everyone!
