Hardin uses salary continuation a lot, but on a case by case basis, as the BWC allows. We are in Group Retro. Each Department Head and/or supervisor of the injured worker and I discuss each potential salary continuation claim, sometimes with our TPA and MCO's input, and arrive at what we feel is an appropriate amount of time to pay salary continuation. The time can be extended if we agree it is necessary. When I started ten years ago I thought paying salary continuation might encourage "look alike" claims, but that has not seemed to have developed. I would add that when we are faced with an apparently long-lasting lost time claim, we may just go ahead and let the BWC do temp. total payments. If you have a minute, we would appreciate knowing your practice for workers' compensation regarding salary continuation. Does your county use salary continuation? If so, what is the maximum amount of time an injured worker can receive salary continuation? If any, what other parameters are tied to the use of salary continuation (injured worker must use doctors from a provider panel, etc.)? What type of premium do you pay, i.e. individual retro, group retro, etc.? Thank you in advance for your answers. Have a great week! Michelle Michelle R. Noble Director, Clark County Personnel 50 E.
