In Muskingum County, we transitioned the duties of the Dog Warden to the Sheriff in January 2021 under ORC 955.121. Prior to that, we did employ a Dog Warden and two Deputy Dog Wardens. The Sheriff operates our K-9 Adoption Center (dog pound) and has two deputies that duties are primary to those of the Deputy Dog Wardens and two Kennel Masters that assist with daily operations of the K-9 Adoption Center. There is an animal shelter in Muskingum County that is separate from the K-9 Adoption Center. The animal shelter is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and not associated with the County. Thanks! Pam and Rob - I am intrigued. Do your counties own/operate an animal shelter? If so, who runs that? In Richland, the Dog Warden's office is at the dog shelter and the Dog Warden is the department head.
