With the cold temperatures and drafty county buildings many CORSA members permits staff to utilize space heaters. Best Practice indicates if a CORSA member permits use of spaces heaters the member develop and implement a space heater policy. At a minimum the policy should have the following requirements: * Heater be UL listed * Heater have auto tip-over protection * Require that the heater be turned off when unattended. Additionally, having auto shut-off is an excellent option * The maintenance department approve the installation and assure that the wiring can handle the load * Never connect to an extension cord or power tap Attached is an information sheet from the NFPA on space heater safety, please feel free to distribute as necessary.
