Many decades ago the people of Butler County passed a countywide levy to establish a museum dedicating to preserving the history of Butler County. Butler County today operates what is called the Pioneers. Soldiers, and Sailors Monument in Hamilton on the site of Fort Hamilton which was built in 1792. Whether Butler County owns the ground on which the monument rests, is unclear It is right next to the Great Miami River and there are conflicting deeds between the City and the County. Anyway, Butler County's obligation to operate the museum is actually the result of special legislation imposing that duty on the County passed by the Ohio General Assembly. Gary Sheets Asst. Seneca County is looking for some information. Do any counties still own a museum? If so how is it funded? If not owned do you contribute to an organization that operates your museum?
