During and after a deep freeze, when the temperatures warm, the frequency of burst pipes skyrocket. The time to prepare is now. Freezing temperatures and warm-ups over a weekend and holidays are especially problematic because many buildings will not have staff for an extended period. Best Practice is to have your facilities staff regularly (as often as practicable) check your buildings for problems including frozen and/or burst pipes. Attached is some basic information about frozen pipe and thawing them if they occur. One very important note: Never use open flames of any kind to thaw frozen pipes and be aware of other hazards such as using electrical devices near water.
