Does your county have a HazMat team that handles this? Yes. Is this team employees of the county or do the township fire departments handle this? The Logan County HazMat Team is made up of volunteer responders (fire, EMS, and law enforcement) from all over Logan County. They are organized under the Emergency Management Agency and report to the EMA Executive Policy Committee (EMA Board). They are supervised daily/report to the EMA Director. Their Chief is a Firefighter/EMT and a HazMat Technician who is also a volunteer. Their equipment is on county inventory and operations expenses are covered through a county fund at the Auditor's office (They currently do not receive any funds from the county - funding is raised through fundraising and cost recovery, although a permanent funding source is being sought.) How/Where does the HazMat team get training? The Logan County HazMat Team gets training from lots of different sources - Fire Academy, Clark State University, Cleveland State University, Local Expert instructors, including Nationally accredited sources when available. Our training for HazMat is funded through the Local Emergency Planning Committee SERC Fire Training Grant, PUCO Grants, and any other source that they are able to apply for or access. What PPE is required? The Team follows NFPA 471, 472, and 473 recommendations. PPE is selected based on those recommendations and the needs of the incident. Do you have a policy that you are willing to share? Our Team By-Laws are attached. The Team also has a set of Incident Response Procedures that have recently been updated and are undergoing final review before adoption. We will be happy to provide those once they are approved and final. These responses are from our EMA director in Logan County. Kacy Kacy D.
