While there are provisions in the Ohio Revised Code on the payment of wage loss for periods of treatment/therapies, Mahoning County does not pay for employees to attend doctor appointments, therapy or procedures, etc. Employees are made to take accrued leave to attend these appointments or try to schedule them after work. Also, keep in mind that BWC does not dictate personnel policy. Therefore, your policy and/or collective bargaining agreement may require usage of accrued leave, however depending on the type of leave taken, may not necessarily prohibit the payment of wage loss. We have never had a formal motion filed for the payment of wage loss related to appointment attendance, and I would never recommend the County pay an employee while they are attending appointments. Portage County will make the injured worker whole (regarding wages) on the date of the injury. Once an employee has returned to work (TWP or full duty) subsequent medical appointments are encouraged to be scheduled around the work shift. We will not deny time off for treatment; however, the form of payroll reimbursement is at the discretion of the injured worker (sick leave, personal leave, vacation or LWOP)... Although it remains a potential option - I've not had an injured worker file for wage loss based upon attending medical appointments. Have a great weekend! Washington County allows the injured worker time off for appointments after they have returned to work (at full or modified duty) with payment of leave type (or unpaid leave) at the employee's discretion. Employees are asked to schedule around work hours when possible. We just authorized an employee for the transitional onsite physical therapy program today. Hopefully, it is approved by the rehab provider. The onsite service should save a lot of travel time to PT appointments for this injured worker. Enjoy the weekend.
