Good afternoon everyone, In anticipation of the predicted warm weather, I have attached a flood preparation guide from Travelers Insurance. With everything that we are hearing, it almost sounds inevitable that many of the streams and rivers will be flowing at or near capacity by the end of the week. Please take a moment and review the attached. Feel free to forward to all departments and offices. A few things to keep in mind going into Thursday are: 1) Make sure all drains are free and clear of ice and piles snow, including roof drains 2) Gutters and downspouts are free and clear of ice and snow 3) Valuable items and documents that are stored in basements should be relocated if possible or at a minimum make sure they are at least 6 inches off the floor 4) If battery back ups are installed on sump pumps, check and make sure they are charged and ready to go 5) Have a plan on where you can quickly get your hands on emergency generators, discharge pumps, and sump pumps 6) Check with EMA and or other emergency offices on availability of emergency equipment and sand bags 7) Consult with other offices and departments to offer assistance and to make sure they have a plan in place should flooding occur 8) Remind everyone about the dangers of driving through standing water http://www.fema.gov/news-release/2013/06/28/turn-around-dont-drownr-2 Last but not least, be cautious of the ice that is underneath the snow, mainly Northern Ohio folks. Parking lots both paved and unpaved are going to be extremely slippery once the rain and thawing begins.
