For Fairfield County: 1. We do allow people to enter the Kennel area to see the dogs. We have a separate closed off area for dogs that are considered to be to high risk for the general public to see unsupervised. 2. They do not currently sign a waiver but do sign in. 3. Visitors enter the kennel area alone however we have staff members that are always present in the kennel area. Typically, they do not follow the visitors around but they are trained to observe from a far and to be available to provide assistance or stop any unsafe action. 4. Shelter staff and/or volunteers do bring dogs into a visiting area 5. Shelter staff/volunteers remain in the visiting area until they feel comfortable with the interactions between the dog and the customer. Once they feel the dog and customer are safe together they will leave the room and allow them to be alone. Observation at that point continues from a window that connects our front office to the visitation room. 6. There are cameras in our facility including all visitation areas, and kennels. We have two local Humane Society locations and they work closely with our Dog Warden-they come every few days to look at the dogs we have and they'll select the dogs they feel are adoptable. Unfortunately, some dogs are so aggressive or severely unhealthy they are not strong candidates for adoption. They take many, many dogs though and they then house them, feed them, attend to their veterinary needs including shots and neuter/spaying and they actively seek adoptive families for the dogs. We do not have cameras on-site. Morrow County Do you allow people to go into the kennel area to see the dogs? Yes, after they sign in. If so, do you have the visitor sign a waiver? Visitors no, volunteers yes. Do visitors go into the kennel area alone or does a dog shelter employee/volunteer accompany them? Staff does not, however there is a large viewing window that the staff monitors the kennel from. Once volunteers are provided specific info (training) they can walk dogs without staff by their side. Or, does a shelter employee/volunteer bring dogs to a visiting area? The shelter has a small “play/meet and greet room” that staff will bring dogs to for people to meet and spend time with—in an effort to help them make a wise decision about adoption. Does an employee/volunteer remain with the dog at all times? In most situations yes. Our reception area/playroom etc are quite small so staff is always within a few feet. Are there cameras at your shelter to capture any mishaps? Not currently but that is on the list to be completed. Our shelter is less than a year old. From the Hardin County Dog Warden,
1. We do allow people to go into the kennel area to view adoptable dogs only. Kennels that are not available are roped off. 2. We do not have a sign-in sheet or waiver. 3. Most of the time a volunteer or employee goes with them if one is available. 4. We also bring dogs to the adoption room if someone wants to visit with a dog. 5. On occasion someone will want to walk the dog outside, if this happens a volunteer or employee will step outside with them depending on the dog. 6. We have nine cameras, 7 inside and 2 outside.
