Good afternoon, Looking for answers to two different questions: If your County closed due to emergency or inclement weather, and you have people coming in for snow removal, how do you pay them? We currently treat the closing as a holiday, and if a person works, they get paid straight time for hours worked, plus the holiday pay. For pre-employment/employment, does your policy state a maximum amount of points on their drivers license a person can have to be employed, stay employed? We give flex time off the following week. Rarely do we give overtime. Richland mostly uses comp time for maintenance to work extra hours to remove snow and ice. We don't allow people to have more than six points on their license and still drive on county business. Some people rarely drive for work and it's not a big deal. Other people drive frequently and their employment status needs to be reconsidered. Ottawa is the same for snow removal. We evaluate each hire based on the position they are applying for so we do not use the points system. Many years ago we had a point system and did away with that. We do state in our policy "any applicant who has had more than two at-fault accidents, arrests or convictions in any 36-month period shall not be hired in positions requiring the applicant to drive a vehicle on behalf of the County".
