Below is the response regarding the 27th pay period from the Auditor's Office Payroll Supervisor. Salaried employees is up to departments, but very few salaried employees. Elected officials are usually prorated for 27 pays, but in our case the last 2 times this happened while I have been here, Commissioners made a last minute decision to change year of 27 pays due to budgeting, so this did not leave us the choice to prorate EO's pay, so in that case, I had to drop their 27th pay. This only happens every 11 years. The critical deduction to watch is the deferred compensation, to be sure no one goes over the legal limit, otherwise, our employees want us to keep as a deduction on their pay. So we only change those that have reached their maximum under the 26 payrolls. Also watch any flexible spending accounts. There seems to be some disagreement on how to handle this pay. How do counties handle the 27 th pay periods? For elected officials, salary employees, and hourly employees? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
