Current Cold Snap and Frozen Pipes
After a cold snap when the temperatures warm is the time CORSA see the frequency of burst pipes skyrocket. It looks like our current freeze will be coming to an end on Friday or Saturday. Warm-ups over a weekend are especially problematic because many buildings will not have staff for an extended period. Best Practice is to have your facilities staff regularly (as often as practicable) check your buildings for problems including frozen and/or burst pipes. Attached is some basic information about frozen pipe and thawing them if they occur. One very important note: Never use open flames of any kind to thaw frozen pipes and be aware of other hazards such as using electrical devices near water.
