Do any of you have a policy or procedure that outlines what an employee is to do if they are involved in an incident/accident involving a County vehicle out of their home County? Such as towing and transportation back to the home County and payment for these services, etc. Thanks! The short answer to what do we do is "it depends." The County policy requires that if you are involved in an accident, in-county or out-of-county, you call your supervisor immediately. After that, the County's response is pretty case specific. If it involves a Sheriff's vehicle, the dispatch will call the next company on the "towing list" - the same list they use for traffic accidents they investigate in-county, or DUI's, etc. If the out-of-county accident was a "total", the responding law enforcement agency would likely have the involved vehicle towed. It may then be an issue between the County and our insurance company (thanks CORSA). A flat or other disabling event might be dealt with locally with a triple A call (AAA), but typically, we would send a tow truck to bring the vehicle home and pay that expense. David W.
